Shravasti is a historic city in Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located on the banks of the Rapti River, about 150 kilometres from Lucknow. Shravasti is one of the six major pilgrimage sites for Buddhists and is said to have been the capital of the Kosala kingdom during the time of the Buddha.
The city has many important Buddhist sites, including the Mahabodhi Temple, the Jetavana Monastery, and the Ananda Temple. The Mahabodhi Temple is said to be the site where the Buddha attained Enlightenment. The Jetavana Monastery is said to have been the home of the Buddha for 25 years. The Ananda Temple is said to have been built by King Prasenajit to honour the Buddha.
